Our Halloween Adventure

It all began with the pumpkin.

Aminta grew it in her garden. It grew and grew. We ate it, of course.

Claudie came with us.

And Ollie and Betty.

There were so many rooms in the palace, we did not know where to look first.

The animals without bodies looked friendly enough.

We weren't sure about the men in the aeroplane.

What a strange room we were in!

I did not like it at all. Can you see the man lurking just outside the door?

 

Then we looked into the eyes of the tiger.

Story

It does not much matter which city it is

when the season has turned 

 

and clouds cast dark shadows in the water.

You arrive alone at the station

 pass the house whose windows are broken

Find the grim and forbidding old one. You ascend the stairs

 pass the tall windows.

climb further

to greeted by the bird of ill omen

who shows you your ball gown... or your shroud.

Method

The artist and his trusty sidekick in the studio.

On the radiator, blown up photographs of people. The computer can transpose all the people to different places.

On the table, a pencil-traced cartoon of it all.

Then all sorts of stencils and cut outs and spraying and layers.

How mysterious these shadow people are. 

And, finally, paint.

More Leaves?

Well, yes. Quite irresistible. 

(Guess how many tries it took me to get irresistible spelt right...)* Sometimes when I can't spell a word, I just give up and choose another word. A bit like speaking a foreign language badly. There are only certain things you can say........

Excellent Dumpling

 Good biking weather. The Hudson bike path to Canal Street and then inland to Excellent Dumpling. (111 Laffyette St. just off Canal). 

A barebones, no nonsense sort of place where we have been coming for years and years. The notice board gets it exactly right. 

The food arrives in less than three minutes.

Scallion pancakes. 

Vegetable dumplings. A Chinese beer for R. Total price for lunch $11.

We've chained the bikes to a lamp post near where the diver and frog swim swim swim.

Nature along the Hudson

Looking west towards New Jersey. Around 17th Street. The pier itself has disappeared leaving only the pilings.

The water, soupy though it is, still looks warm.

Rose hips.(You guessed that.) 

Somewhat artistic decaying metal and paint.

Feathery wildflowers cling to concrete.

Illuminated

On the corner of 22nd Street and 10th Avenue, you can see the model of buildings that in real life are on 9th Avenue. You can also see an electrician getting stuff out of his van.

A white hat in October, a novel fashion choice. She is a lovely old lady who likes the dog.

Illuminated barbed wire. Hmm........

It's old lady day. Crossing the street. 8th Avenue and 22nd Street.

 The Rubin Museum has C.G.Jung's Red Book on display.

No photos allowed of the actual exhibits, except on the third floor.

So much to see that it's quite overwhelming.

We experiment with the design of mandalas with little plastic overlays.

Geri says hi.

In the evening the Empire State Building celebrates The Grateful Dead.

Brown Studies

A wet, cold weekend forecast. Nothing for it but to look at the ground

where leaves decorate the graffiti behind the movie theater.

Same old mini-pumpkin on the table. And the wing from the dog's Halloween costume. (Don't ask). Everything brownish and yellowish and I don't even like brown really.

At the Met, they've got the whole greenery/yallery thing going. Each color to its season.
